Do’s & Don’t’s of Hosting a Great Sponsored Session

Do 

  • Follow a Case Study Format
    • Stories are more memorable than statistics
  • Plan 35 -40 minutes of content and save the last 10/15 minutes for questions.
    • Engage the audience.  Attendees like to hear about the challenges and experiences of their peers.  Find ways to get the audience to speak.
  • Please be aware of your session’s start and end time – sessions must end on time. A room monitor will be outside your room & will open the door at the end of your session. Thank you for ending your session on time.
  • Attendees love takeaways!
    • What are action items or new skills you can encourage attendees to try in their roles/life?

Don’t

  • The most memorable talks offer something fresh and highlight unique stories, avoid using your session as a sales pitch.
    • Please refrain from referencing your company name or product names.  Our attendees expect these sessions to be educational, not sales oriented.  Leave the product demonstration for your trade show booth. 
  • While we understand that you cannot always provide the name of the organization you are referencing, cloaked or blind references resonate with our audiences (“There was an insurer that had X problem, they did Y, and they achieved Z.”).  
  • Critique experiences shared by attendees
 

Learning Objectives

  • All session descriptions must include learning objectives to ensure the session qualifies for CPE Credit.
  • Learning Objectives must be based on relevant objectives and outcomes that clearly articulate the knowledge, skills, and abilities that can be achieved by participants in the session.

Participating in a Panel

Your panel moderator and will be hosting a kickoff call for all panelists to meet and review the discussion prior to the show. Be on the lookout for a follow-up email with that information. 

No PowerPoints are required by panelists.

Tips & Tricks

  • Address timely and relevant industry topics
  • Keep responses focused on learning objectives and industry-relevant educational topics
    • Steer away from marketing and product pitches
  • Be sure to connect with your panel peers on-site!
  • And, arrive at your room early in order to test the A/V equipment
